ABOUT US
A Journey of Hope
A Journey of Hope is a documentary that shares one story, one journey of the life of someone with MS through the eyes of her caregiver. It’s the story of love, hope, and commitment. This documentary was not created for sympathy or pity, but instead it is to help others understand and to educate and build acceptance about the effects that this disease has not only on the person living with it, but also her caregiver/family.
Update | During the summer/fall of 2017, with the strong encouragement from mom’s physician assistant, we began the serious work of researching, testing, and ultimately purchasing three devices for mom and her caregivers. Mom and Dad purchased an electric wheelchair from Millers, which is taking mom more time than expected to get used to, but hopefully, with increased practice she will be using the electric wheelchair daily. A sit-to-stand lift was purchased from Access to Independence. It is used daily for moving her to and from her chair, showering chair, etc. And, finally, they purchased a handicap accessible van from M.C. Mobility, which has brought a new level of ease and to some degree independence to their daily life! To read more about this journey and mom’s new mobility devices, read “Mobility Devices…Improving Quality of Life” blog.
WHAT DRIVES US
KV’s Krew, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization which was established in honor of our mom, Kathy, who was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis in July 2008. Our mom had been living with symptoms since 2000. On March 10, 2014, our family was thrown another curve ball when we learned that our sister, Nikki, was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS. Although our mom has been living with the devastating effects of primary progressive MS for many years, she continues to dedicate her life to her faith, family, and friends. Nikki has adapted her lifestyle to stay strong and healthy and both of these amazing and strong women continue to find comfort in the support and encouragement from our family and friends and in their faith. It is our primary goal to raise awareness and educate others about MS, while raising funds for donation to organizations, societies, foundations, etc. that support MS education, research, and assist MS patients.
On behalf of the Villella family, we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge that in light of everyone's journey we appreciate the continued thoughts, prayers, and support from our family and friends. We would like to share a poem, Simple Soul by Grace E. Easley, which helps put life into perspective. Please know that all of you are making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
Simple Soul
By Grace E. Easley
Lord, let me be a simple soul no matter what life brings,
finding joy and solitude and peace in little things.
Content to watch the grasses grow and all the flowers bloom,
bringing sunlight to the life that may be filled with gloom.
Lord, let me be a simple soul, however grand this earth,
never let me once forget how much my soul is worth.
Blind me to the things of life that cause the heart to stray,
and keep me a simple soul forever and a day.
